Encephalitozoon cuniculi

A parasitic disease transmitted either by ingestion or inhalation of spores that enter the environment through infected urine, or a rabbit is infected in utero by its mother. The parasite enters the bloodstream mainly in the kidneys and from there to other organs where it significantly affects their function. The symptoms of this disease are not specific and are common to many other diseases. Clinical signs include behavioural changes, head tilting, rapid eye movements, ataxia (staggering) to seizures, urinary problems, stunted growth, tremors, cataracts and kidney failure.
