A viral disease of the respiratory tract that causes inflammation of the upper respiratory tract, purulent discharge from the nostrils and conjunctivitis. Other symptoms include fever, loss of appetite, abortion and reduced milk production. In rare cases, infection of the genital tract may occur.

ELISA gE is used to differentiate between animals vaccinated with a marker vaccine and animals infected with a field virus.
