A bacterial disease that causes melioidosis in humans and animals, affecting the lungs and internal organs. Causes systemic infection to septicaemia. In animals it is often chronic with granulomatous purulent nodules in the lungs, liver, spleen, lymph nodes and subcutaneous tissue.
